Discover India, what was once a localized event that started to bring the community together to celebrate India's Independence Day, has become a highly anticipated annual event in New Jersey's cultural calendar, attracting not only Indian Americans but also people from diverse backgrounds and cultures who are interested in Indian culture.
Over the years, the event has grown in scale and popularity, with the number of attendees increasing each year. The events feature various performers, including musicians, dancers, and artists, showcasing various aspects of Indian culture. The performers come from local and international backgrounds, providing diverse perspectives on Indian culture.
Apart from the entertainment, the event also allows visitors to sample Indian cuisine and purchase Indian-inspired goods from various vendors. The vendors sell everything from traditional clothing and jewelry to handicrafts and home decor, giving visitors a glimpse into India's art and culture.
One of the most memorable performances at Discover India by far was by the international troupe Viva Kultura, who brought their unique blend of traditional and contemporary dance to the stage. Their performance was a testament to the evolving nature of Indian culture. It showcased the ability of Indian art forms to be adopted by an international group of people while adding a hint of modern art forms.
In addition to celebrating Indian culture, Discover India is an opportunity for the community to learn and grow. The event has also offered many educational workshops and cultural presentations that provide insights into the various aspects of Indian life, including art, music, dance, cuisine, and spirituality. Attendees can participate in hands-on activities such as henna painting, traditional Indian games, and cooking demonstrations, allowing them to experience Indian culture firsthand.

This unforgettable evening brought together nearly 700 people from diverse backgrounds, all eager to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture.
One of the most exciting features of the event was our multiple Indian cinema-themed photobooths, where attendees got to step into the world of Bollywood and capture memorable moments.
The positive energy at Palmer Square was palpable, with guests from various cultures coming together to learn, appreciate, and celebrate the rich heritage of India.
We can't thank our incredible performers enough for lighting up the stage with their exceptional talents. Each performance was as breathtaking as the next, making the evening truly magical!

Regional Cultures of India
In a momentous event, Discover India 2021 recently concluded on September 12th, 2021, at Palmer Square in Princeton, New Jersey. This marked the 10th anniversary of this cultural extravaganza, organized by SR Mosaic Inc., an all-women-led organization aiming to foster community awareness through education and cultural events.
The event saw over 600 attendees in just three hours, offering a vibrant display of Indian arts, music, dance, and community projects. Notably, the "Mosaic of India" project stole the show, featuring a 9 ft tall map of India created from hand-painted canvases. Eminent guests, including Mayor Mark Freda and Deputy Mayor Neil J. Lewis, graced the occasion, praising the event's impact on the community. Generous sponsorship by "Royal Vivaah Creations" added splendor to the decorations, making Discover India 2021 a historic success. The event showcased the power of community engagement and artistic talent, leaving a lasting legacy.
2018
Stories of Indian History & Heritage
On October 7th, 2018, at the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in NJ, SR Mosaic proudly presented "DISCOVER INDIA." It was a historic and mesmerizing Broadway-like concert that left us in awe.
The local performers brought incredible energy, matching any international group in grace and talent. They were nothing short of magnificent, and many of them have become dear friends. Our vendors worked tirelessly throughout the show, offering beautiful objects with unwavering sweetness.
Amaravati's cuisine was delectable and the perfect pre-show meal, while Chitra Ramaswamy's Bharatnatyam rendition of The Lion King left the audience raving about its uniqueness and creativity. Viva Kultura's performance captivated the audience, evoking tears, laughter, and enlightenment. The artists, including Punam Panchal, Shivani Badgi, Arindam Chakraborty, Rizwana Safiya, Trupti Kotian, and Shreya, delivered mesmerizing performances. Kalakriti and hastkala, led by Leena Dave, showcased over 50 exquisite art pieces, each a testament to the incredible talent on display. This show wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly, supporting my late-hour ideas and plans. They were the backbone of this event, and I am grateful.

Nari Shakti - Women Empowerment
In a momentous and profoundly significant occasion, SR Mosaic, with utmost reverence, paid heartfelt homage to the indomitable spirit of Indian women through a celebration that honored Nari Shakti, the essence of Women's Empowerment.
This historic event marked a noteworthy milestone in the annals of our collective consciousness. It served as a poignant reminder of the countless narratives of courage, determination, and perseverance that have enriched India's tapestry over the ages.
It was an occasion that symbolized not just the enduring strength and resilience of women but also their invaluable contributions to every facet of India's history, society, and culture.
SR Mosaic's tribute resounded as an eloquent testament to women's pivotal role in shaping the very foundations of our nation, and it was underscored by a profound message of empowerment, emphasizing the urgent and vital need to uplift, support, and nurture the women of India for a brighter, more equitable future that beckons us all.
2015
Indian Independence Day
In the annals of Plainsboro's history, September 12th, 2015, stands as a day of cultural awakening and unity. It was on this day that the Discover India – 2015 program unfolded its vibrant tapestry of Indian heritage at WW-P High School North. This remarkable event, in its second year, was masterminded by the indefatigable Shikha Rastogi, a stalwart community developer and Chair of the Plainsboro Human Relations Council.
Discover India 2015 was a testament to the rich and diverse culture of India, a country renowned for its unity amidst its multitude of cultures. Originally conceived to commemorate Indian Independence Day, this program evolved into a showcase of India's cultural mosaic, skillfully woven into the fabric of society. The event enchanted and enlightened attendees of all ages with a kaleidoscope of performances, ranging from folk dances to classical vocal renditions. A standout feature of the day was a compelling historical drama that brought Indian history to life, igniting curiosity in young minds. The event also featured burgeoning local cultural phenomena.
The generous support of sponsors, notably Indus American Bank in Plainsboro, North American Telugu Association (NATA), SVK Systems, and others, made this cultural extravaganza possible. Over 1200 participants gathered from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM, including prominent figures like Senator Linda Greenstein, Mayor Peter Cantu, and Lions Club past district governor Mahesh Chitnis.
2014
Indian Independence Day
In 2014, the "Discover India" program occurred on August 16th at the Plainsboro Recreation & Cultural Center, marking a significant cultural event. This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Plainsboro's Indian Community and the Human Relations Council of Plainsboro and was orchestrated under the dedicated leadership of Shikha Rastogi.
The program's primary objective was to provide an immersive experience into the rich tapestry of Indian traditions. Various booths were set up, showcasing the diverse cultures and regional artifacts from different states of India. The heart of the event was the vibrant stage, where both children and their mothers delighted the audience with captivating performances of regional folk dances and tunes. A compelling skit was also performed, illustrating the diverse festivals and rituals celebrated by the Indian people.
On the occasion of India's 68th Independence Day, The event commenced with an opening address by Mr. Nuran Nabi, a Plainsboro Committee person. The presence of esteemed guests, including Mayor Mr. Peter Cantu and Deputy Mayor Mr. Neil Lewis, added a special touch to the occasion. These dignitaries graciously took time from their busy schedules to engage with the participants and capture memorable moments through photographs.

In a historic display of patriotism and community spirit, Shikha spearheaded a momentous celebration to commemorate the 65th Indian Independence Day in Plainsboro, New Jersey.

With unwavering dedication and meticulous planning, Shikha orchestrated an extravaganza that would go down in the annals of central New Jersey's history.
Collaborating closely with esteemed dignitaries from the Plainsboro administration, this grand program transcended expectations, and it was a magnificent affair attended by none other than the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Plainsboro, underscoring the event's monumental significance.
A remarkable turnout of over 200 attendees joined hands in celebrating the rich tapestry of Indian heritage and the enduring values of freedom and unity, making this Independence Day celebration an indelible historic moment etched in the hearts of Plainsboro residents.

Year by Year in history, the inaugural grand-scale Indian Independence Day celebration unfolded in the heart of Plainsboro, New Jersey. It was the brainchild of a visionary named Shikha, who, along with a dedicated team of her closest friends, orchestrated a momentous gathering that would resonate through time. In the summer of that historic year, over 150 enthusiastic individuals from various corners of the Indian diaspora converged to partake in an event that would forever etch itself in the tapestry of immigrant experiences. The celebration was a tapestry of vibrant colors, melodious tunes, and heartfelt performances, as children took center stage, bringing alive the rich tapestry of Indian culture through skits, dances, songs, and elaborate fancy dress displays.
This momentous occasion was just the genesis of an ever-expanding narrative. This cultural saga provided a platform for people to showcase their diverse talents and immersed them in a mesmerizing spectacle that rekindled their connection to their roots. Over the years, this Plainsboro tradition has become iconic, symbolizing the enduring spirit of Indian Independence and unity in a foreign land.
